ARTIST PROFILE: RAY HONISETT
Born and educated in Perth, he moved to Melbourne in his late teens, then to London where he studied and worked for seven years as a freelance illustrator. In 1969 he joined the lecturing staff of RMIT University's Faculty of Art where he remained for the following 26 years while also maintaining a private art practice that took him to much of Australia and the South Pacific. He became the first professional artist to paint in the Australian Antarctic Territory when the Antarctic Division of the Department of Science sponsored three tours encompassing all Australian bases and the French base of Dumont d'Urville.
In 1987 he collaborated with Alan Swann (current President) and Harry Margules to form the Australian Society of Aviation Artists; being elected Inaugural President and retaining that position for the following seven years. SEABIRDS - Maritime air power - the fleet air arm in action 1988 |
