Oil on Belgian Linen, 40" x 26", Private Collection
A Qantas Airlines Boeing 737-800 soars high over Sydney Harbour on a perfect afternoon in the harbour city.
This particular departure route known as Entra Two, offers a spectacular view of Greater Sydney's many attractions and iconic landmarks.
The aircraft depicted here, VH-VXP, displays a dedication to the 75th Anniversary of the First Transpacific Flight, a feat achieved in 1928 by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, along with co-pilot Charles Ulm, navigator Harry Lyon and radio operator James Warner. The crew made their pioneering flight in a Fokker VIIb Trimotor named the Southern Cross, and traversed the Pacific from Oakland via Honolulu and Suva, then finally to Brisbane. |
