The Australian Society of Aviation Artists is an incorporated body that was primarily formed for the benefit of likeminded aviation artists who wanted to share and enhance their craft, skills and knowledge of aviation and art through their interaction with other practising members.

As the society developed it became apparent that there also existed an opportunity to contribute to a very worthy cause - the preservation of Australia's aviation heritage and also to take aviation art to the public. To this end the society participates in general art shows and aviation shows and we stage our own aviation specific art shows.

It was a natural progression to establish this website. Firstly to provide an immediate means of communication for, and between members for all issues concerning membership and society events, etc, secondly to reach the public in general and those people who have an interest in aviation art, and lastly to facilitate contact between buyers of aviation art and the Society's artists for the purchase of works presented in the GALLERY section, or for commissions.

ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Society was formed in 1988 and is comprised of members from all walks of life who are both amateur and professional artists. They share a common interest in aviation art and all things aviation. The Society's practical activities and workshops are specifically conducted to help members improve their knowledge of aviation and art techniques. The continued improvement of members skills levels, and exhibition of his or her work are paramount objectives of the Society, as is the preservation of military and non-military aviation history by the many and varied art forms for the education and enjoyment of present and future generations.

Although traditional art media has been well represented among the membership, the Society warmly welcomes new members who use other art forms and media to document/represent aviation. We consider the documentation and representation of aviation history by means of painting, sculpture, photography, diorama, computer art, technical illustration, literature, modeling etc. of equal value and well worth development and exhibiting.

The Society is associated with the Guild of Aviation Artists (UK) and affiliated with the American Society of Aviation Artists. (USA), which has resulted in an interchange of ideas, techniques and items of interest.

The Society welcomes affiliation with other aviation groups such as Aviation Museums and Historical Societies.
